Historic Virginia Beach

Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay, and offering a temperate Mid-Atlantic climate, Virginia Beach has attracted local-area residents and tourists alike since it’s founding in 1887. As a resort town, Virginia Beach history follows closely with it’s neighboring Norfolk, with a rail link and construction of an oceanfront hotel spurring it’s popularity as a beach vacation spot, with it’s local history as a first landing of settlers adding to the magic of the ocean and surrounding countryside. In our photo collection we celebrate both the old and somewhat new, with images of the oceanfront of the 20s-40’s, longboard surfers, lifeguards and a bevvy of beach beauties from Virginia Beach’s past available for print.
